Recently on family road trip we encountered a storm, I mean we drove head on into it. It did not just come out of nowhere, we knew what the weather forecast was but we didn’t know how close we were to it. Storms are hard to gauge while on the rode unless you are constantly monitoring it. Before we entered the storm we saw the lightening and dark clouds ahead. As we got closer the clouds got lower and darker. It felt like the space between the road and the sky was getting shorter,  the clouds were literally on top of us. It was like we were in a time warp because just moments before the sky was still bright with plenty daylight and within minutes it looked like the hours had instantly passed and it was nightfall. While in the storm all the cars around us began to slow down and turn on their hazard lights. If you’ve driven through a bad storm or rainfall on the interstate this is familiar to you. Some people keep going at a speed too fast for the road conditions with seemingly know regard to those around them. Others are extra extra cautious and almost come to a complete stop. The people in the middle slow down, turn on hazards but keep moving. Although the storm didn’t last long, it lasted long enough to cause a little uneasiness. For me, that feeling made me lean into prayer, although I had prayed before our trip I began to call on JESUS in the midst of the storm as well. In that moment we needed Divine protection. AS we came out of the storm the sky quickly brightened up again and what had looked like the middle of the night soon became a warm early evening with the sun still shining brightly. The cloud coverage was not nearly as bad as it was at the onset of the storm.

Situations like this cause me to reflect and learn. Here’s what I learned from this heavy down pour. When storms comes you have choices and decisions to make. You can either stop and wait for it to pass or stay and ride it out. Either way a storm will cause you to slow down. Even though the clouds and rain may come, know that the sun (Son) is still present. Most importantly, because He is present know you are not alone. Hazard lights give warning and guidance, take heed. Heavy storms don’t last long and the sunshine always outlasts the rain.
